President's statement on the death of Jiri Havel
His death hit me very hard. It is a very painful loss for the Czech left. Jiří was a well-educated,
honest and decent man. For many years he was a leading figure of our party and
author of several policy documents and economic manifestos. I want to express my sincere
condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

- ČSSD rejects the church restitution enforced by the TOP09 and ODS as unfair, over-priced and carrying a high-risk for the state
ČSSD rejects the church restitution enforced by the right-wing government because they are unfair, over-priced and carrying a high risk for the state. If ČSSD gains in the October elections a sufficient mandate from the voters, it will use its best efforts to rectify this injustice. We will seek to significantly reduce financial compensation for unissued church property so that the compensation will be reasonable and fair. We will not allow handing over of the property owned by the Church before 25th February 1948. We will consider the possible introduction of tax assignations to be used for church financing in the future.

- ČSSD Election Program in a Nutshell
After 7 years of the reign of the right we live in a state that does not work, or does not protect its citizens. ČSSD wants to change that!
