Press releases
-
2013-05-16 - After three years of wrong economic policy introduced by Nečas' government, Czech economy finds itself in the longest recession since 1993. Despite optimistic predictions from the government and some experts the rate of economic downturn is even sharper, and our country is experiencing the worst economic development across Central Europe.
-
2013-04-24 - The Czech social democratic party welcomes the fact the initiative of civic associations The Reconstruction of the State was made public. As the main opposition party, we share the intention to reduce corruption by promoting a number of specific legislative measures. We find it sad that even though for three years we have a government of Prime Minister Petr Nečas, which confidently calls themselves a government of “a fight against corruption”, no major changes have been made.
-
2013-04-13 - ČSSD adopted three resolutions on current political situation at today´s meeting of the Central Executive Committee.
-
2013-04-10 - The governmental proposal of the law governing the financing of political parties is insufficient. If it is to increase transparency of funding and to limit corruption, then the law must be radically strengthened. ČSSD will seek an agreement of political parties, which should lead to adoption of the following rules:
-
2013-04-06 - Today, Social democrats commemorated the 135th anniversary of the foundation of social democracy in the National House in Vinohrady at a gala ceremony. At this occasion ČSSD chairman Bohuslav Sobotka awarded social democrats who helped in restoring of social democracy in the 1990s.
-
2013-04-03 - Social Democracy clearly welcomes the fact that the President Miloš Zeman completed the ratification of a document that allows establishing a European stabilization mechanism as an effective measure to assist vulnerable economies of the euro-zone.
-
2013-03-17 - I reject the words of Jan Mládek mentioning the parasitic behaviour of the sole traders. I would like to clearly distance myself from those words. Professionals who are trying to make living for themselves and their families at the time of economic recession extended by the flawed government policy do not find themselves in a simple situation. Everyone who works or does business deserves recognition.
-
2013-03-01 - One of the long-term priorities of the Social Democrats is the quest for justice, equal rights and opportunities for all without distinction, including equality before the law. Therefore ČSSD from the very beginning clearly disagrees with the amnesty of President Václav Klaus and Prime Minister Petr Nečas for fraudsters involved in bribery and perpetrators of serious crimes.
-
2013-02-22 - ČSSD considers the Law on property settlement with churches, which narrowly passed in the Chamber of deputies thanks to the government of Petr Nečas, despite the rejection by the Senate, as unjust, costly and highly risky for state and the future role of churches and religious communities in the Czech society.
-
2013-02-19 - Continuation of the European integration is for ČSSD a superior aim. Signing fiscal pact and approval of fiscal constitutions we consider essential. These two things can´t be separated so the consent of ČSSD upon acceptance of the government´s draft of fiscal constitution is subject to the following steps:
-
2013-02-18 - From the beginning of the preparation and approval of the law on state settlement with churches ČSSD repeatedly pointed out the lack of transparency in preparation and possible negative effects of the act.
-
2013-02-06 - In the light of the current facts ČSSD is ready to support the deployment of Czech instructors in the upcoming EU mission in Mali, assuming that clear conditions of their deployment are met.
-
2013-02-01 - On Thursday 31st January a regional conference of the Central Bohemian organisation of ČSSD ended marathon of regional conferences that traditionally precede the party congress. Regional conferences did not bring any significant surprises regarding the nominations of the candidates to the Leadership. Regional bodies have expressed their support for candidacy for the post of party chairman to Bohuslav Sobotka. Michal Hašek received the most nominations for the position of the statutory vice- chairman.Nomination also received Lubomír Zaorálek.
-
2013-01-26 - Let me on this important day, in the moment when for the first time in history the president of the Czech Republic was elected in direct elections, speak on behalf of the Czech Social Democratic Party. As you know, ČSSD has been promoting the introduction of the direct election of the head of the state for years. We were convinced that direct elections as well as general referendum would strengthen and revitalize our democratic system. Now we can say that we have succeeded.
-
2013-01-12 - First of all, ČSSD would like to thank to everyone who participated in the first round of the presidential elections. ČSSD has been long advocating for introduction of direct election of the head of the state, therefore we welcome the fact, that people showed a great interest on the election and that the elections resulted in more than 61% turnout.
-
2013-01-03 - Czech social democratic party firmly rejects the form and scope of amnesty on which agreed President Klaus and Prime Minister Nečas. We consider it scandalous that amnesty frees participants of large economic frauds, including tunnelling banks and companies, frauds during privatisation or tax evasion involving billions of CZK. According to the Attorney General this involves at least 13 serious cases of economic crime whose investigation was worth a great deal of effort of both the police and the judiciary. This long-term hard work, including related financial costs, is now completely useless. This amnesty will thus lead to great disillusionment not only among citizens but also in the Czech police and judiciary.
-
2013-01-03 - Reducing the budget deficit would be very good news if it was achieved by increasing the state budget revenues, e.g. Increase in tax revenues. However, by not disbursing the allocated funds from the state budget is the ministry of finance practically increasing internal debt of many ministries and institutions and indebts our future.
-
2012-12-05 - Yesterday's announcement of the progress in negotiations with Sweden to extend the lease of fighter aircraft JAS-39 Gripen appears to be positive news. However, it is necessary to ask to what extent these negotiations have been affected by delays in launching talks on the final price and also what impact will castling in personnel headed by the Ministry of Defence have on the final trade.
-
2012-12-04 - Is it really necessary for Czech President Václav Klaus or Prime Minister Petr Nečas to express their annoyance over EU integration at every occasion? Do they seriously think it is the best strategy to promote national interests and needs of our open export focused economy this way? It is a tragic mistake.
-
2012-12-03 - Dear Mr. President, Let me turn to you in the matter of direct election of the President of the Czech Republic.
-
2012-11-30 - CSSD welcomes the UN decision to give Palestine a non-member observer status. Clear vote of the majority of UN countries is a positive step towards a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
-
2012-11-27 - Social democracy has proposed abolition of 14 Laws that have been discussed by the governing coalition in the Chamber of Deputies in our opinion unconstitutionally.
-
2012-11-16 - Social Democratic Party has serious concerns about the state of the social policy, which was devastated by the former Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Jaromír Drabek (TOP09) by his across-the board-cuts affecting families with kids and disabled, by freezing of indexation of pensions and his attempt to privatize pensioners money into private pension funds and chaos concerning the amendment of the social benefits payments or the S-KARTA project.
-
2012-11-08 - President of the Czech Republic noted that further existence of Nečas led government is better than immediate fall of the government and consequent chaos that would occur. I certainly do not think that the fall of the government could arise more chaos than makes Prime Minister Nečas by creating mistaken and ill-conceived reforms.
-
2012-11-07 - I would like to congratulate American president Barack Obama on his re-election. It is good news for Europe and the global world, in which USA play important role.
-
2012-11-04 - I want to congratulate Petr Necas, who was elected as chairman of ODS. I don´t feel the need to comment on the details of the internal condition of the ODS or on the position of the right-wing government, but still I consider it to be very weak and unstable.
-
2012-11-03 - Czech social democratic party does not expect the ODS Congress in Brno to provide a solution to the current critical economic and social situation in the country. ODS is not even after the electoral debacle able to understand that the fault is not in the way they explain their policy, but in fact of government reforms themselves.
-
2012-11-02 - Without a word of justification coalition government today suspended for a week meeting of the Chamber of Deputies. This occurred despite a clear objection of the opposition whose representatives could not even express their objections in the parliament. We consider such a course of action, when, without any previous agreement unexpectedly and unreasonably interrupted regular meeting of the House of Deputies as unfair and arrogant.
-
2012-11-01 - Members of the Social Democratic Party will present a bill to delay the government's pension reform in the Chamber of Deputies next week. Intention of ČSSD is to stop privatization of the pensioner´s money by releasing of the second pillar of the pension reform. According to the current legislative chaos and errors that occur in approved laws, ČSSD proposes a draft law to delay start of the reform, so people could finally decide about the reform in the next elections that should be held no later than in the first half of 2014.
-
2012-10-30 - In ČSSD we believe that the recent significant defeat of the governmental parties (ODS, TOP 09) in the recent regional elections is also a major defeat for the current right-wing government liquidation policies in social, health care and financial matters. The win of ČSSD is a clear proof that citizens want a fair and socially responsible policy instead of board cuts, tax increases and further privatization of state services.
-
2012-10-30 - The government will consider a report of the Minister of the Interior about the possibility of the introduction of electronic voting in elections. ČSSD firmly rejects public spending on projects and studies during the economic crisis in the name of preparations of electronic voting, considering that is quite unlikely that there will be electronic voting within 10 years. Besides, under the rule of the current government, there is a risk of another „electronic tunnelling“.
-
2012-09-24 - The reform proposals put forward by ČSSD are the outcome of thorough debates with experts and ordinary citizens. Our political programme is not being created against the will of society and we want and will debate it further. We want the reforms to lead to stabilisation of the state finances without lowering the citizens’ standard of living and social security but the contrary, to lead to growth. If we succeed in the next election we will do everything to put them through in accordance with the citizens’ will.
-
2012-08-27 - Today in Brno, the social democrats kicked off their election campaign for fall regional and senate elections with the “Tell the Nečas government enough” pre-election tour. During September and October, representatives of ČSSD leadership, candidates, senators and deputies will be present at hundreds of public meetings with citizens throughout the entire republic to present the social democratic platform founded on fair and just reforms, solidarity, and equal opportunity for all.
-
2012-08-20 - ČSSD does not agree with the manner in which the ODS and TOP 09 coalition propose to handle property and asset settlement with churches. We consider the government’s church restitution to be overpriced, unjust, and legally risky.
-
2012-08-14 - ČSSD fundamentally rejects today’s statement by Cardinal Miloslav Vlk that it is allegedly “defending the crimes of communism”. The entire history of social democracy is integrally linked with defending and promoting democratic values, whether during the First Czechoslovak Republic, the fight against German Nazism, or the struggle to maintain democracy from 1945-1948.
-
2012-08-14 - Numbers published by the Czech Statistical Office confirm that the Czech economy has been in recession for the third straight quarter. It is quite probable that this year’s decline in GDP will reach 1% year-over-year. This means that the Czech economy is shrinking while the economies of all other surrounding countries are maintaining economic growth.
-
2012-08-13 - The governors and regional leadership of the social democrats fully support the fight of ČSSD to ensure a more just property settlement with the church that will not harm people and will not result in further serious economic damage to the CR at a time of budget deficits and spending cuts. They thereby unequivocally deny the claims made in certain media that the campaign of social democrats against the Nečas proposal for church restitution is to be restricted in certain regions.
-
2012-08-07 -
-
2012-08-02 - It is with relief that I acknowledge the departure of Senator Dryml from ČSSD. The final month of his membership in ČSSD clearly demonstrated that his primary intent was to deliberately damage the ČSSD name in the media and his actions were reminiscent of the proverbial “fifth column”. Today’s notification of his departure to SPOZ merely shows why Vladimír Dryml systematically attacked ČSSD. In leaving ČSSD, Vladimír Dryml is taking his unfulfilled ambition with him.
-
2012-06-20 - The Social Democrats adamantly oppose the plan of the Nečas government for property settlement with the churches which it is pushing through in spite of a substantial resistance of the majority of the citizens of the Czech Republic, and without agreement with the opposition, for its unfairness, lack of conception and high risks it poses for the state. In the current complicated economic situation we consider the release of property worth more than 80 billion crowns plus financial compensation in the amount of 60 billion crowns quite misplaced and grossly damaging to our country.
-
2012-06-20 - The Social Democrats consider the collapse of the state maturita project a serious problem which may mean a serious threat to the standard of education in our country. The repeated failure of the state maturita together with the deep suspicion that the whole project which cost more than 1.5 billion crowns from the state coffers was overpriced, gives grounds for an immediate and consistent solution.
-
2012-06-09 - ČSSD appreciates the letter from German president Joachim Gauck on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Lidice tragedy. The liquidation of Deputy Reich-Protector Heydrich is a key event in Czech history. With this deed the Czech nation stood up for the defence of the values of European culture before one of their greatest threats, German Nazism. We believe it is very important to be able to reflect the event of those days together. We appreciate the fact that the German president says that Germany realises its political responsibility for the events and expresses his sympathy with the suffering and pain. We regard President Gauck’s letter as a good contribution to Czech-German dialogue as a sensitive follow-up on the previous accommodating steps of the German side.
-
2012-06-06 - The Social Democrats firmly reject mendacious speculations of the chairman of the TOP09 deputy club Petr Gazdík about non-transparent financing of ČSSD. The Social Democrats have always presented abundant evidence of their financial management, including the financial management of the joint-stock company Cíl, i.e. annual financial reports and corporation tax returns, auditors’ reports and related documents, including gift covenants.
-
2012-05-31 - ČSSD demands immediate resignation of minister of finance Miroslav Kalousek. It considers it inacceptable for the Nečas government and its minister of finance to pursue an ostrich-like policy and refuse to assume political responsibility for the fatal failure in drawing on tens of billions of crowns from EU structural funds and for what is clearly a badly configured system for auditing the EU structural funds.
-
2012-05-10 - The Czech social democratic party heartily welcomes the news of today’s election of a new French president, socialist Francois Holland. After a long 17 years of alternating right-wing presidents, this marks an important change for both France and Europe as a whole.
-
2012-05-09 - ČSSD fully understands the reasons behind the deep dissatisfaction of seniors with the right-wing reformist government of Petr Nečas, the policies of which have resulted in record price increases in food and medicine, destruction of the current mandatory cost-of-living increases in pensions, across-the-board cuts in social benefits, skyrocketing increases in medical fees, and underfinancing of the network of social facilities for the sick and disabled.
-
2012-05-09 - Dear friends, ladies and gentlemen, social democracy has shown the ability to responsibly manage and govern in all 13 orange regions! ČSSD has performed its role and fulfilled its election promises of 2008. Once again I would like to thank all social democrat voters for their support. Without them we would never have been able to do it. Thank you!
-
2012-03-13 - The right-wing Nečas government must immediately stop its policy aimed at the liquidation of Czech pensioners. Representatives of the four largest organizations associating hundreds of thousands of pensioners in the country agreed with the leadership of CSSD on this.
-
2012-03-13 - The Nečas government decision not to sign the EU budget treaty means that our government has ostentatiously begun to withdraw from the common solution of the current financial and economic problems of the EU.
-
2012-03-13 - CSSD respects the results of the presidential elections in Russia. Nonetheless, we do not believe their course was completely fair as there are strong suspicions of the exclusion of some presidential candidates from the electoral lists.
-
2012-03-13 - CSSD calls on the Nečas government to initiate a gradual increase in the minimum wage on the understanding that the government will take the first step on 1 July 2012.

-
2012-02-22 - On the eve of the EU summit scheduled for March1st-2nd, 2012, Prime Minister Petr Nečas plans to visit Great Britain and meet with British Prime Minister David Cameron. Evidently, the Czech government intends to discuss the EU fiscal treaty which is to be signed at this EU summit.
-

-
2012-02-22 - At its meeting in the Southern Moravian town of Hnanice, the ČSSD Presidium began discussion regarding potential ČSSD candidates to run in the direct elections for the President of the Republic.
-
2012-02-01 - With his rejection of the EU fiscal treaty, Prime Minister Petr Nečas not only surprised EU partners and foreign observers, but also the Czech public. Perhaps most remarkable of all was that the Prime Minister was not able to explain his position clearly.
-
2012-02-01 - Prime Minister Nečas’s rejection of the treaty on fiscal responsibility will lead the country to ruin, isolation, and out of the European Union.
-
2012-02-01 - I cannot imagine that the Parliament of the CR would pass a law on universities which the universities themselves reject, or how such a law could function in practice
-
2012-02-01 - ČSSD fully understands the protests of the academic community against preparations being made to amend the University Act and the Student Financial Aid Act.
-
2012-02-01 - The first item on the agenda at the next session of the Chamber of Deputies will be the ČSSD proposal to pass a constitutional national referendum act. This law could be passed within the year.
-
2012-02-01 - The games being played by the Nečas government over loaning 3.5 billion EUR (90 billion CZK) to the International Monetary Fund are not only in poor taste but also threaten Czech national interests.
-
2012-02-01 - At its meeting today, the Presidium of the Social Democrats unanimously adopted the following resolution:
-

-
2012-01-11 - As the shadow minister of education I am greatly alarmed by today’s attempt of minister Josef Dobeš to play down a serious problem, where as a result of the ministry’s oversights the education sector may lose tens of billions of crowns from the European funds.
-
2012-01-11 - Minister of finance Miroslav Kalousek has been experiencing it for the second time on a reduced scale. The first time he flouted the law on the state budget was in 2009 when the deficit, instead of the approved CZK 38 billion crowns amounted to approximately 224 billion.
-
2011-12-02 - The Czech Social Democratic Party asks the P. Nečas government to adopt system measures for drawing on EU funds as soon as possible to avoid the risk of losing tens of billions of Czech Crowns
-

-
2011-11-08 - With respect to the 2012 budget, ČSSD proposes active measures to stabilize public finances and support economic growth. Considering that the government of Petr Nečas has once again submitted an unrealistic budget which completely ignores the need to promote employment and social cohesion, to stabilize public budgets or to stimulate economic growth, ČSSD is unable to support such a budget bill.
-
2011-11-08 - Postponing the so-called “second pillar” until 2015 would allow citizens to express their opinion on these measures in the next parliamentary elections.
-

Pouť v letošním roce provázelo i odhalení pamětní desky na počest významného malíře Slovácka Jožky Uprky.
-
2011-08-28 - Komunikaci vrcholových představitelů ČSSD mezi sebou přes média, zahájenou předsedou Bohuslavem Sobotkou, považuji za nešťastný příspěvek ke konci letošní okurkové mediální sezóny. K mému podpisu petice za přímou volbu prezidenta, hejtmanů a starostů – ČSSD i já osobně prosazujeme posílení prvků přímé demokracie už řadu let, zavedli jsme krajské referendum a prosazujeme i přímou volbu prezidenta republiky – jako občan jsem vyjádřil názor v souladu s programem ČSSD a věřím, že stejnou péči jako mé kritice za podpis jedné petice, bude Bohuslav Sobotka věnovat prosazení závazné podpory novely ústavy o přímé volbě hlavy státu našimi poslanci a senátory.
-
